This is almost embarrassing to admit but I have never flown on an airplane. So obviously, I've never booked a flight and I'm having a little trouble. I went to a couple of sights and cannot get a rate for a one-way ticket from Colorado to Missouri. The only choices are two-way. Where can I find this information? I tried cheaptickets and travelocity. Thanks in advance.

I have a very dear friend who has never been on an airplane, either. She is terrified of them. Her husband has really wanted to go on vacation with him, alone, and we can't convince her to do it. Do you have any suggestions of how we could talk her into it? Both sets of their parents live close enough to help out, and we just can't get her to relax and go somewhere "fun."

Thanks Megadeth Lady! That was exactly what I needed! Deborah, I used to be afraid of flying but since our car accident 2 years ago I've been too afraid to drive long distances so we're going to try flying. Do you think I'll get over the car accident anytime soon? This fear of mine is making me miss out on a lot of experiences.

Well, I am one who is more afraid of long car drives than I am of flying. My sister (with five kids) got into a very serious car accident in January, and everyone was OK! But, it shook my kids and myself up pretty badly when we got the call. The other driver in that accident lost his arm, and my sister's kids saw it all. I don't think you can get over things like that very quickly.

Anyway--I love flying! It can be wonderful! The thought that we live in a day and age when you can get around the world in a few hours really boggles my mind!

It's the reverse for me - I have no problem driving long distances, but a horrible fear of flying.

One website that has helped me is fearofflyinghelp.com . It's written by an airplane captain who has a good grasp of why people are afraid. Unfortunately, last time I flew was very traumatizing for me, and I haven't been able to get on a plane since. I'm going to have to soon, because it's so necessary, but every time I think about getting on a plane again my stomach turns.

Do some comparison shopping, because if you are making an advance purchase (say, 7 days or 14 days before you want to travel) a round trip ticket is sometimes LESS than a one way ticket. It is supposedly against airline "rules" to throw away the return portion of your ticket, however, there is no "law" that requires you to travel on it. Just don't try to get a refund on the back half of the ticket!! If you are unsure, and especially for a first time traveller, I recommend contacting a travel agent. Lin

Deborah, I can appreciate where your friend is coming from! Maybe some people are just born with it? I spent the first seven years of my life living directly behind our local airport, but I've always had a awe-fear feeling when I see them. I wasn't too keen on the idea of flying to begin with, and then September 11th came.. I know it's unlikely it'll happen again, but when I think of flying my first immediate thought is seeing the plane hit the second tower. I think it'll be some time before that image is not the first thing I think of when talking about flying.

Seeing as you are flying out of Colorado may I suggest Frontier Airlines. They are great. I have flown them a number of times, Denver to K.C. MO.

They run a little over $250 for a one way flight.

Ashley, Frontier is who my Sis recommended as she flew from Denver to KC also. I've been comparing prices to get an idea of what to save up for. DD is going to CO in June or July.
